thoughts

Commercials are starting to sound vaguely similar to something, hmm, I'm thinking a movie, oh yeah, like the Schooner Tuna commercial! Ok, so who hasn't seen the 1983 (wow- that's 26 years ago!) Mr. Mom movie with Michael Keaton & Teri Garr?? Not too many I'm guessing... definitely a classic (I can't keep from giggling right now as I'm typing this post!)! So many one liners... "220, 221 what ever it takes" and "Erv, clean-up in isle 6" - LOL :) I tried to get the Schooner tuna commercial scene from the end of the movie to make my point but it's not available on youtube.

"My fellow Americans. I am Howard Humphrey, President of Schooner Tuna. All of us here at Schooner Tuna sympathize with all of you hit so hard by these trying economic times. In order to help you we are reducing the price of Schooner Tuna by 50 cents a can. When this crisis is over, we will go back to our regular prices. Until then, remember, we’re all in this together. Schooner Tuna. The tuna with a heart."

Let's hope we rebound out of the recession like they did in the 80's. Oh wait, the people in the 80's had Reagan making changes that worked - we've got Obama making things worse and making our future generations responsible for his frivolous spending (thought he wasn't going to do that?!?).

I'm confused and frustrated... and gently reminded that I serve a God whose BIGGER than ALL of this. He conquered DEATH 2000+ ago and died for us sinners... "You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:6-8 NIV.

One more thing to remember... "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33. Those were Jesus' words from John chapter 16 - very comforting!

We serve a RISEN Savior and we can rest in Him and Him alone (not things of this world). I will count my blessings and thank Him this day for every one!!!
