Yep... that's what the doctor told us last night at urgent care... Nathan broke his elbow just above the joint at the base of the humorous (upper) bone. He's doing just fine today with his arm... unfortunately it's his right arm so he's had to start re-thinking things, like how to use the mouse on the computer (as pictured above - he moved the mouse to the left!).
We have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with the Orthopedic doctor downtown GR to get his arm set and cast. He's already thought about it and wants an orange cast. Poor little guy... I'm sad that he's only 6 years old and has a broken arm (I guess I should be thankful that he's as old as he is with his first break, right?! :) ).
He was playing out back yesterday with the neighbor kids just before dinner time when it happened. He was actually playing baseball with the neighbor boy when he tripped running through the sand box and fell on the wood lip that goes around the sandbox. I really thought he had broken his ribs the way he came up from the fall, so thankfully it was just his arm and nothing worse. Just a freak accident that I know all mom's everywhere would love to figure out how to avoid... unfortunately there's no way to predict it - or prevent such things.
I'm just trying to be thankful for the little blessings that surround this... it's the last month of school so this really shouldn't affect his school, it's not mid-summer so he doesn't have to miss swimming (I'm thinking 4-6 weeks of a cast takes us mid-June), we don't have to wrestle a coat on with the cast (and no long sleeve shirts), and it's on his upper arm bone and doesn't affect his hand a wrist as much as it could have. I'm just praying that God will heal him quickly and that Nathan will adjust quickly to the "new" way of life (thankfully, it should be just temporary).
I'll post more pictures after he gets his cast.....

Both Cristin and Chad broke theirs when they were 5...Cristin fell off the backyard swing and from across the yard, I could tell it was broken. She wanted a purple cast, unfortunately, she had to have a plaster cast and those didn't come in colors. :-( She had to go through the summer without swimming, too!
Chad broke his just after he started Kindergarten. While getting off a friend's trampoline, the step broke. He was just learning to write, and had to switch hands for a while.
I soooo can relate, Mom!
